I’m participating in the Domino Project’s #trust30 initiative to celebrate Ralph Waldo Emerson’s Self-Reliance. As part of this challenge I’ll respond to daily writing prompts that relate to the Self-Reliance theme of trusting you gut and paving your own way.
Since I’m a couple of days behind, here’s my response to the first prompt:
Day 1. 15 Minutes to Live, by Gwen Bell
You just discovered you have fifteen minutes to live.
1. Set a timer for fifteen minutes.
2. Write the story that has to be written.
————————————-
I’m not going to write a good-bye letter or talk about the phone calls I’d make to those I love and are leaving behind. In the last 15 minutes, I’d take a deep breath and reflect on my short, but event-filled 25 years.
I’d think about my accomplishments - none of the accolades, straight A’s, or professional wins. Instead, I’d mark my life a victorious one because of the love I have in it and the wonderful collection of people who have come and gone and come and stayed.
I would close my eyes and picture my parents and brother. I would wish that I left the world a little bit better by doing my part - sticking up for the little guy, pursuing my passions, and following the golden rule.
I would spend my last 15 minutes liberated and inspired… A life with love and without regret.
